About the Club
Hornsea Sailing Club
Cruising or Racing ?
For racing ...
Club racing is organised for a dinghy fleet including several different types of dinghy, using an agreed time handicap system with starts being either handicapped by time or mass starts.
Either way the racing is really competitive. The racing programme is divided into three points series - spring, summer and autumn- interspersed with several special events such as cup races and open meetings which attract visitors from other clubs.
Racing takes place Sunday mornings and afternoons and also Wednesday evenings from May to the end of August.
Involvement in our racing programme is a good way to develop your sailing skills and we are always keen to welcome new racing members whatever their age or experience.
...or just sailing for pleasure
Although much of its activities revolve around racing, the club equally welcomes those who do not wish to compete but simply enjoy sailing for pleasure.
New junior members are particularly encouraged, with the more experienced sailors always keen to offer help and guidance.
Or Are Newcomers to the Sport
Sailing is a safe and relatively inexpensive sport that the entire family can enjoy.
When just getting started in the sport newcomers can choose boats and equipment that matches their sailing ambitions, budgets, and crew size. Usually starting out with a second hand boat and having just become members of the club they will find a group of friendly fellow sailors always eager to lend a helping hand.
If you would like more information or to arrange membership, please come along to the Mere during the season or click on the "Join Hornsea Sailing Club" button in the navigation bar above.
we will be very pleased to have you aboard and we will give you all the help and support we can!
Even though Hornsea Mere is the largest natural lake in Yorkshire, we regret that for safety reasons catamarans and ultra high performance asymmetric's (laser 5000's, 49ers etc.), are not permitted.
