Commodore's Report - 17 Jan 2024
Published 15:10 on 25 Oct 2022
Happy 2024 to all members. It's time to start looking at the new 2024 season which starts in just a few chilly months.
I have taken a look down at the Mere and can report it is pretty full. Unfortunately, this has prevented any start to the clearing out of the reed bed and dredging around the jetties. We will be keeping an eye on the water level and weather to find the opportune time to make a start on this task and I will update as soon as the works have been undertaken.
Due to the recent winds, the fence segregating the seating area in front of the club room has yet again been blown down. I have checked the footing of the middle post and believe, to make a better repair, it needs to have a deeper post imbedded in the concrete. A job to go on the working weekend 'to do list' I think. Generally all looks ok around the club house and member's boats still looked secure apart from one which has been reported to the owner.
As you will all be aware from previous reports, Wassand Estate has committed to replacing the leaky roof on the club house and a structural report has highlighted a number of issues which will require attention, in addition to replacing the roof material. A number of prospective contractors have been invited to express interest. Timescales will be discussed to ensure any disruption to the Sailing Club and its members is kept to a minimum. Watch this space.
Nothing else to report apart from I hope you all look forward to the 2024 new season and, above, all remain safe, well and be kind.
