Commodore's Report - 2 July 2024

Published 15:10 on 25 Oct 2022

We are nearly half way through the season where it was expected we might have a great, warm, sunny and pleasant time on the water, with a new roof in place and looking forward to some nice new showers and internal toilets. Sadly, none of which have materialised - yet. Be assured though, as I have been by the team involved, that the roof work is happening, albeit delayed for comments from Natural England until the summer holidays are over, and to allow the Hornsea Pirates sail training to continue as normal. We will have a dry building soon I hope. Once we have the roof completed, we will also be recommencing discussions over the new showers and toilets. I will advise as soon as I hear something on that one. As for the warm, sunny pleasant time on the water, we await in hope.

We held two events this year, the Streaker open, part of the Northern Paddle, which again was not best supported by the class but was enjoyed by those who made the journey to Hornsea. Well done to Mike Knight, the sole Hornsea Streaker, who battled through traffic to join in the fun. The second event held was the North East & Yorkshire Youth Traveller Series held on 11 May in not idyllic weather for spectators but applauded by the event organisers for our well-timed fog which provided the young, enthusiastic competitors with an interesting challenge. The feedback was great for the club and all those who came along to help out. I have been told they will return, but not next year. They have also said we should get our own youth fleet to join in next time. Now that's a great aim for those of you with budding young crews, get training. Great thanks must go to all the volunteers who made these events possible - great effort everyone!

We have some race results in for those of you who have an interest in what's happening in our local competitions. Pop a look at the results on the club website to see the mix of winners so far - great to see some of the regular names knocked off the top spots. Results : Hornsea Sailing Club

Nothing else to report or say apart from I hope you all look forward to the rest of the 2024 season and above all remain safe, well and be kind.

Pip Warner, 2024 Commodore, Blaze 876.
